+ gentle parenting + gentle bedtime + gentle sleep + gentle mornings

rebecca kammerer

pediatric sleep specialist, parent coach and founder

My name is Rebecca Kammerer. I am a wife, and a mother to boy/girl twins. I am a certified pediatric sleep coach and certified parent coach, as well as a writer, public speaker, and survivor of a sleep deprived childhood, devoted to the pursuit of healthy sleep, for all families that work with me. I remember the early days of being a new parent. I would refer to myself as, "The Bear". I could barley function, I looked like a grumpy ole' bear and I would growl at everyone, especially my husband. I recall how I would wake from the (very little) slumber that I did get, feeling angry. I would feel awful. I did not know how I was going to make it through the day. I later learned that sleep deprivation is used as a form of torture. That is when I knew that I needed help getting sleep.

My background of work and study has greatly revolved around children, most importantly caring for children. I owned my own family childcare center and I was a live-in/out nanny for over 15 years. What is most unusual about my time spent as a nanny is that I only worked with “3” families. I built true relationships with the children and their parents, while I worked with each family. My first nanny position of 4 years was for a doctor and her husband who was a teacher, for their twin sons, in Bedford, New York.  My next position was of 9 years was for Barbara Corcoran of ABC’s Shark Tank and former FBI agent and retired Navy captain Bill Higgins for their son Tommy, in NYC. The third nanny position was for a movie and broadway actress Ellen McElduff and her motion picture writer and producer and play-write husband Eric Overmyer for their two daughters, in NYC. I studied psychology at SUNY Purchase. I was fortunate enough to be invited to sit-in on the Post Master's Training Program in Parent Education and Parent Guidance at Adelphi University. I am a certified Parent Coach, trained through, the Talaris Institute and Love and Logic, Inc. I have been in the pediatric sleep business for over 12 years and recognize that parents with a child that has sleep issues, are searching for answers. I have been personally trained and certified by "The Sleep Lady", Kim West as a Gentle Sleep Coach. I help parents learn how to create healthy sleep habits that can last a lifetime.

Most recently my studies have been based on “maternal depression and sleep training”. What I learned, is how the attachment process between the primary caregiver and child, can be negatively or positively affected by the different approaches to sleep coaching. From this, I have created schedules to help with the overall health of a child. I offer Infant Consults for 4-5 month old’s and Sleep Coaching services starting around 6 to 9 month old’s and up to around 12 years of age.

I am referred by pediatricians. What is wonderful about this partnership is, even though many of the practice's go-to form of sleep training is the cry-it-out method, they are still open to the concerns of the parent, when they say, “That is not for me and/or my child”. At which point they refer them to me.
